The Ministry of Communications, Digital Technology, and Innovation is currently investigating public complaints regarding rapid data depletion, commonly referred to as “vanishing data.” The Ministry has stated that it will take action against any telecom operator found to have manipulated data tariffs. This investigation comes in response to growing frustration among consumers over the quick exhaustion of internet bundles, particularly after a recent 15% price increase implemented by telecom providers.
During the launch of the Ministerial AI Bootcamp on Friday, July 25, sector Minister Samuel Nartey George acknowledged the widespread concerns and confirmed that multiple complaints had been received from consumers. However, he emphasized that no sanctions could be imposed without solid evidence of wrongdoing. “When I say I’m working on the complaints, it means we’re actively looking into them. But if our findings do not reveal any tariff tampering, I cannot impose sanctions—that’s the reality,” Mr. George explained. He urged the public to remain calm as the investigations continue and assured them that the Ministry is committed to ensuring consumer protection and fairness within the telecom sector.
