Ghana Card will detect MoMo Loan defaulters who dispose of SIM cards – MTN Ghana

MTN Ghana’s Field Service Manager (Network) in Kumasi, Mr. Dickson Amoung‑Yam, has urged Mobile Money customers to honour their loan obligations. He cautioned that borrowers who default can no longer evade repayment, as their accounts are now securely linked to the Ghana Card.

Speaking to the Ghana News Agency during a media and stakeholder engagement in Sunyani, Mr Amoung‑Yam expressed concern that some individuals previously exploited the system by discarding SIM cards after accessing loans. He warned that such practices are no longer possible, since attempts to register new SIM cards will be flagged by the service’s database.

He encouraged all customers with outstanding loans to settle them promptly, noting that timely repayment ensures the sustainability of the service and allows others to benefit. Mr. Amoung‑Yam emphasised that customer satisfaction remains central to MTN Ghana’s operations, adding that the company continues to invest heavily in infrastructure and services to deliver on that commitment.

Mr Amoung-Yam urged customers not to hesitate to report service problems to the company for the needed attention. He said there had been no barrier to the company’s existence, adding that even farmers at their farms are now able to make calls and send messages from the forest, which was an indication that every area in Ghana was gradually being covered with signals.

Mr Amoung-Yam said there were several apps that customers could access to prevent the long queues that were often mounted at MTN offices.
