Govt declares May 27 a public holiday

The Ministry of the Interior has announced that Wednesday, May 27, 2026, will be a statutory public holiday in celebration of Eid al-Adha, also known as the Feast of Sacrifice. In a statement released on Friday, May 15, the Ministry called on everyone to observe the holiday nationwide. The declaration, signed by Interior Minister Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, reads:

“The general public is hereby informed that Wednesday, 27th May 2026, marks Eid-Ul-Adha, which is a Statutory Public Holiday and should be observed as such throughout the country.” Eid al-Adha is a significant event in the Islamic calendar, marked by prayers, acts of charity, and the ritual sacrifice of animals to honour Prophet Ibrahim’s faith and obedience to God.
