Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has announced that the government has initiated processes to recruit new personnel into the public sector, despite recent disclosures that a GH₵17 billion loan was required to cover wages in 2025. Addressing a Presidential Encounter with Organised Labour on March 17, Dr. Forson explained that the recruitment drive forms part of commitments made to labour unions to expand workforce capacity.
“On the 2026 base pay, the government committed to engage with unions on outstanding conditions of service and undertake critical recruitment into the public service, all within budget constraints. In this regard, the government has commenced processes for the recruitment of staff to the public service. The Fair Wages and Salaries Commission has also begun negotiations with Organised Labour on reviewing conditions of service, which will soon be approved,” he stated.
