Govt bans drone flights around Black Star Square on January 7

The Ministry of National Security has issued a directive banning the use of drones at Black Star Square and its surrounding areas during the inauguration of President-elect John Dramani Mahama on January 7, 2025.

In a press release signed by Lily Fati Soale, Acting Chief Director for the Ministry of Information, the government clarified that the restriction applies to all drones, both recreational and commercial, as part of efforts to ensure the safety and security of visiting dignitaries, guests, and the general public.

The directive underscores the government’s commitment to maintaining a secure environment for the inauguration ceremony. The Ministry has called on all drone operators to adhere to the ban and comply with the security measures. Stakeholders have been urged to respect the directive and cooperate fully to ensure the smooth conduct of the event and the safety of all attendees.
