GES, Lecturer deny ‘KEEA pregnant girls story’

The Ghana Education Service (GES) Directorate in the Komenda Edina Eguafo Abrem (KEEA) municipality in the Central Region has denied speculations that a teacher has impregnated three pupils in the municipality.

The Municipal Director of Education, Mrs Cecilia Aboagye speaking with Graphic Online, said it was worrying that such a news item without basis should be circulating about teachers and learners in the municipality in the media. For her, the unsubstantiated news story has brought the name of the municipality into disrepute.

Mrs Aboagye said what was even worrying was the fact that news organisations kept publishing the story without checking the facts with the rightful authorities. “The story does not say which school or community; nothing to substantiate the claim. Yet, news organisations keep publishing and discussing it for which reason I do not know,” she said with a sense of frustration.

Ms Aboagye said she had been a director of the KEEA for the past two years and had not received any such complaint, saying “We also have our own systems of picking up some of these cases and so far nothing has been picked up in any school in any community in the municipality.” She said there were sanctions according to the GES’s code of conduct and any such breach would have been picked up and dealt with promptly.

Again, she said, the lecturer to whom the story was attributed, had denied the story happening in the KEEA municipality.

“The lecturer himself has denied ever saying that the incident happened or that it happened in the KEEA municipality. If any incident like that has happened anywhere, he should tell the world where it happened,” she stated.

Lecturer denies story

The lecturer to whom the story was attributed, Dr Kyeremeh Tawiah Darbone, a lecturer at the University of Cape Coast in an interview, said he had called for a retraction of the story because of the inaccuracies.
