The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has firmly dismissed media reports alleging that most applicants undergoing medical screening for military recruitment have tested positive for HIV. In a statement signed by Naval Captain Veronica Adzo Arhin, Acting Director General of Public Relations, the GAF described claims that approximately 60% of applicants were HIV positive as entirely false and misleading.
The statement emphasised that the medical screening exercise is still in progress and that no official results have been released to substantiate the circulating reports. “The medical process is ongoing, and no results have been declared as at now,” it clarified, urging the public to ignore the publication in its entirety.
The Armed Forces further disclosed that efforts are being made to trace and identify the individuals behind the dissemination of the report, which it described as mischievous and capable of causing unnecessary public anxiety. GAF also cautioned media practitioners, particularly bloggers, vloggers and online content creators, to adhere to professional standards by verifying information before publication.
