Focus on Ken Agyapong’s humility, leadership qualities, not temper – K.K. Sarpong

Dr. K.K. Sarpong, former Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), has downplayed concerns about the fiery temperament of New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential hopeful Kennedy Agyapong, describing it as something that can be managed. He urged party delegates to look beyond Agyapong’s outspoken nature and consider his broader qualities.

Agyapong, often characterised as a “no-nonsense” figure who is easily provoked, has been the subject of debate within the party. Speaking on Channel One TV’s Face to Face with Umaru Sanda Amadu on Tuesday, January 20, Dr. Sarpong explained that Agyapong usually reacts only when provoked and should be judged by the totality of his character.

“I did a summary, and his positives outweighed the negatives. The only issue people raise is with his speech. For me, that can be managed so he can channel his strengths for the good of the country,” he noted.

Dr. Sarpong also pointed to Mr. Agyapong’s record, noting the absence of corruption allegations against him. “Have you heard that he’s been tagged with corruption? If he’s insulting people, that is one side, but have you looked at the totality of his personality?” he asked.

He added that his closer interaction with the NPP aspirant had revealed a more humble side. “I got closer to him and saw how humble he is. Now he must be behaving presidential. Let us be honest, in the last six months, have you heard anything about him that is negative? It’s not pretence,” Dr. Sarpong said.

According to him, Kennedy Agyapong’s recent conduct and leadership choices demonstrate maturity, and he should be judged beyond a single trait. “Whatever he is, don’t judge him on one variable; judge him on the totality of the variables,” he added.
