Every qualified BECE candidate will be placed – GES assures

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has assured that all qualified candidates of the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) will be placed in senior high and technical schools for the 2026 academic year.

In a statement issued on May 14, the Service announced that preparations have been finalised to admit fresh students nationwide beginning September 18, 2026. It dismissed reports claiming that about 72,000 candidates could miss placement, describing such claims as speculative and inaccurate.

GES emphasised that every effort has been made to guarantee access to secondary education for all qualified students and assured parents and stakeholders that adequate infrastructure and facilities are in place to accommodate this year’s intake.

The statement added that ongoing efforts to phase out the double-track system would not affect access to senior high school education. According to the GES, the move is instead expected to improve teaching and learning while maintaining full access for students nationwide.

The service reaffirmed its commitment to providing equitable and inclusive education for all Ghanaian children and called on stakeholders to support the process.
