Energy Ministry announces boost in natural gas supply as ENI ups output by 30 MMscfd

The Ministry of Energy and Green Transition has announced a significant enhancement to Ghana’s natural gas supply, following an agreement with ENI to increase its output by 30 million standard cubic feet per day (MMscfd). This change will take effect on Sunday, July 13, 2025, raising ENI’s total gas supply to 270 MMscfd. The Ministry describes this initiative as a strategic intervention to strengthen the nation’s energy infrastructure.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, July 9, the Ministry indicated that to facilitate this increase, ENI’s gas export operations will be temporarily suspended to prioritise domestic supplies. “This temporary measure is crucial for optimising the supply chain and ensuring the successful implementation of the supply increase,” the statement said.

The Ministry acknowledged that this suspension may impact gas availability for power generation, but reassured the public that steps are being taken to minimise any disruptions. They are working closely with stakeholders in the power sector to maintain stability during this transition.

“We have proactively implemented comprehensive measures to mitigate any potential disruptions,” the Ministry stated. These include enhanced monitoring of power production and contingency planning to ensure minimal impact on the electricity supply nationwide. Reaffirming its commitment to energy security, the Ministry urged public understanding and cooperation during this critical transition.

“We remain committed to ensuring a stable and sustainable energy future for all,” the statement added. The move is expected to support the country’s broader efforts under the 24-hour economy policy and contribute to long-term energy resilience.
