Eid ul-Fitr: Mahama grants two-day national holiday

President John Dramani Mahama has announced that an additional public holiday will be observed in honor of the Muslim celebration of Eid ul-Fitr. This decision is in line with his campaign promise and acknowledges the significant contributions of the Muslim community to national development.

During the sod-cutting ceremony for the new Hajj Village on Friday, February 28th, President Mahama announced that he has directed the presidency’s legal counsel, Marietta Brew, to make amendments to the Public Holidays Act. “I am pleased to share that I have instructed Madam Marietta Brew, the legal counsel at the presidency, to revise the Public Holidays Act to include an additional holiday for the celebration of Eid ul-Fitr. Starting this year, two public holidays will be observed at the end of the holy month of Ramadan,” he stated.
