Education Forum report to be ready by March – Prof. Goski Alabi

Professor Goski Alabi, a member of the National Education Forum Committee, has announced that the committee’s comprehensive report on Ghana’s education sector will be finalized and submitted to the government by March 2025. This committee was established by President John Dramani Mahama as part of his campaign promise to initiate a national dialogue on education. The committee has been engaging key stakeholders to gather insights and recommendations for transformative reforms.

Chaired by Professor George K. T. Oduro, former Pro Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast, the committee is tasked with defining the forum’s agenda, engaging stakeholders, selecting a venue, setting up a secretariat, and preparing a budget. Speaking on Point Blank on Eyewitness News on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, Prof. Alabi provided updates on the committee’s progress.

“As you can see, engagements are going on till the end of this month. Next month, in March, we will put all the evidence that we have gathered together and present a comprehensive report to the government of Ghana through the Ministry of Education.

“We believe that there will be subsequent meetings about the policies that are going to come out. We anticipate that our report should be ready in March, and Parliament will determine how we can work around the implementation process,” she stated. Meanwhile, President Mahama has assured stakeholders that recommendations from the forum will be put to good use.

During the launch of the forum in Ho, Volta Region, on Tuesday, February 18, Mahama emphasized the importance of collective responsibility in shaping Ghana’s education system. “It is our shared duty to make recommendations that are impactful, transformative, and essential for developing a global Ghanaian. As a government, we are fully committed to this process. I assure you that your recommendations will not be left to gather dust on the shelf,” Mahama stated.
