The committee investigating the death of hit-and-run victim Charles Amissah has concluded that he died due to medical neglect rather than the injuries sustained in the accident. Mr. Amissah, a 29-year-old engineer with Promasidor Ghana Limited, was involved in a hit-and-run accident at the Circle Overpass in Accra on February 6, 2026.
He was reportedly stabilized by emergency responders at the scene before being transported to several hospitals for treatment. However, he was denied admission at both the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital and the Greater Accra Regional Hospital (Ridge), as well as the Police Hospital. The committee stated that these delays and multiple referrals significantly worsened his condition, leading to cardiac arrest at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, where he was subsequently pronounced dead.
Presenting its findings on Wednesday, May 6, the committee noted that the multiple health facilities failed to properly triage and provide immediate emergency intervention for the victim, instead opting to refer him elsewhere. According to the committee, prompt medical attention at any of the hospitals Charles was taken to could have saved his life.
“The pathology confirms that this was a slow death from medical neglect and not from the instant trauma. What it means is that if at any of these facilities there had been medical intervention, Charles Amissah would have survived,” the committee stated. Meanwhile, the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital has interdicted two doctors and two nurses over their alleged failure to provide emergency care to the victim as investigations and possible further sanctions continue.
