The Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association, in collaboration with key stakeholders, has appointed Carlos Queiroz of Portugal as the head coach of the senior national team, the Black Stars. Queiroz, who has previously coached teams such as Real Madrid, Manchester United, Portugal, and Iran, will lead Ghana’s campaign in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be held in Canada, Mexico, and the United States.
Queiroz brings a wealth of World Cup experience to the role. He successfully led South Africa to qualify for the 2002 FIFA World Cup, guided Portugal to the knockout stage in 2010, and managed Iran during the 2014 and 2018 tournaments. His coaching career also includes roles in Egypt, Oman, Japan, and Qatar, and he is expected to leverage this experience to enhance Ghana’s performance in the World Cup.
Coach Queiroz will begin his duties immediately to prepare the Black Stars for the tournament, which starts on June 11, 2026. Ghana is scheduled to play its first group match against Panama on June 17, 2026, in Toronto, Canada, followed by matches against England and Croatia in the remaining group stage.
