NADMO has raised concerns regarding the spillage from the Bagré Dam expected on Friday

The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has urged residents living along the banks of the White Volta River and other flood-prone waterways to evacuate immediately due to the planned spillage of water from Burkina Faso’s Bagré Dam on Friday, August 28, 2026. In a public alert issued by NADMO’s North East Regional Office on Thursday, August 27, the organisation announced that the authorities of Burkina Faso’s electricity company, SONABEL, had informed Ghana about their decision to release water from the dam following an unexpected rise in water levels.

Initially, a planned spillage had been postponed because the dam’s water level had decreased. However, the recent increase in water levels has made the release necessary. NADMO warned that communities along the riverbanks and other vulnerable areas could be affected by the spillage and urged residents to evacuate immediately and remain vigilant.

NADMO also advised the public to stay updated by following further announcements and directives from the organisation and other relevant authorities as the situation evolves. This alert affects communities along the White Volta River basin, where previous spillages from the Bagré Dam have caused flooding and displaced residents in parts of northern Ghana.
