The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, is set to brief President John Dramani Mahama on the recently concluded mediation process aimed at securing lasting peace in the long-standing Bawku conflict. President Mahama had entrusted the Asantehene with leading this high-level peace initiative, which many believed could finally bring an end to years of unrest and instability in the region.
The meeting, held on Monday, December 1, 2025, marked a significant milestone, as both the Kusaasi and Mamprusi groups came together before the Asantehene for the first time since the mediation efforts began
Security around the Manhyia Palace was tight, with both groups undergoing strict checks before being escorted into the palace auditorium. Sources said that Otumfuo listened extensively to submissions from both factions, urging restraint and assuring them of continued collaboration with the Presidency to end the long-standing impasse.
Outside the palace, supporters of the rival groups erupted in jubilation after the meeting. The celebrations briefly escalated into a misunderstanding, prompting swift intervention from police and military personnel. Additional security was deployed to restore calm. Both factions are now awaiting official communication from the Manhyia Palace on the next steps in the peace process.
