At least 15 feared dead in three-vehicle crash near Konongo on Kumasi-Accra Highway

At least 15 people are feared dead after a devastating three‑vehicle collision at Odumase, near Konongo, along the Kumasi–Accra Highway in the Ashanti Region. The crash involved a cargo truck loaded with tomatoes, a passenger bus, and a fuel tanker that was not carrying fuel at the time.

The precise cause of the accident has yet to be officially confirmed, though eyewitnesses told JoyNews it followed an alleged wrongful overtaking manoeuvre, leading to a head‑on impact. Emergency responders rushed to the scene to free trapped passengers, while others were transported to nearby health facilities for treatment.

The incident has caused severe traffic congestion on the busy highway as security agencies and rescue teams continue operations. In a troubling development, a second crash was reported shortly afterwards at Dadieso, also near Konongo, intensifying concerns over road safety on the Kumasi–Accra corridor. Authorities have not yet released official casualty figures or provided further details on either accident.
