Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), recently met with the Ghana National Association of Small-Scale Miners as part of ongoing consultations aimed at identifying practical reforms to address challenges within the sector. The meeting took place on Thursday, August 27, and included members of the NPP’s Identifiable Groups Committee on the Extractive Sector.
During the discussion, Dr. Bawumia highlighted the challenges facing small-scale mining and proposed reforms to promote responsible mining, protect the environment, create jobs, and enhance local value addition. He emphasised the importance of implementing practical reforms that could make small-scale mining more sustainable and productive while also addressing its environmental impact.
This engagement is part of the NPP’s ongoing efforts to consult with key stakeholders in the extractive sector to gather insights that will help inform policies and reforms for the industry.
