The Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) has announced a planned power outage affecting parts of Tema on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, to facilitate emergency maintenance at the Smelter II Substation. The maintenance will be carried out from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. According to a statement issued on Tuesday, GRIDCo stated that the works are necessary to enhance the stability and reliability of electricity supply across the transmission network.
Engineers and technical teams will be deployed to ensure the maintenance is completed as swiftly as possible, with power restored promptly afterwards. GRIDCo expressed regret for any inconvenience caused by the temporary outage and requested the public’s understanding and cooperation during this period. As Ghana’s electricity transmission company, GRIDCo transmits power from generators to distribution companies and bulk consumers in Ghana and parts of West Africa.
