New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer aspirant, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has extended heartfelt appreciation to his campaign team and party stakeholders as provisional results from the presidential primaries place him ahead with more than half of the votes counted. Addressing supporters at his Accra office on Saturday, January 31, following updates from constituencies nationwide, Dr. Bawumia acknowledged the intensity of the contest, describing it as a demanding campaign across all regions.
He credited his lead to the collective commitment of his team and supporters, stating, “I want to thank each of you. This has been a long journey — a fierce battle waged across the country — and we could not have reached this point without the dedication of those around me.”
He praised his campaign leadership, including National Campaign Coordinator Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu and Campaign Manager Fred Opare Ansah, as well as Members of Parliament who backed his bid. Dr. Bawumia also thanked party executives, the Electoral Commission, security agencies, and the media for their roles in organising a successful election.
The former Vice President paid tribute to past leaders of the party, including Prof. Adu Boahen, former President J.A. Kufuor, and former President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, saying their efforts laid the foundation for the party’s growth. “It is really humbling that I have been elected to continue the work they started,” he added, while also acknowledging the contribution of former Members of Parliament.
Provisional results from several constituencies nationwide show Dr. Bawumia leading his contenders in key strongholds, placing him firmly ahead as counting continues across the country.
