The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) battled for 11 hours to bring a major fire at Yota Energy Company Ltd in Shai Hills under control. The blaze, which broke out on Monday, October 13, 2025, at 11:04 am, was finally put out at 10:39 pm. Four firefighting units were dispatched to the scene, and GNFS personnel worked relentlessly to contain the flames and minimise further damage.
Divisional Officer Grade II Ebenezer Yenzu, the Tema Regional GNFS Public Affairs Officer, told Graphic Online that the response included four firefighting teams: the Base Pump from Gbetsile, and additional pumps from Devtraco, Motorway, and Tema Metro. An excavator was also brought in to assist with operations. The fire was ultimately extinguished at 10:39 pm.
Damage
DO II Yenzu, who is also the Tema Metro Fire Commander, said the fire resulted in significant damage to industrial ovens, control boards, cutting machines, and binding machines; however, about 95 percent of used tyres and a warehouse were salvaged from the fire. He said two males, 27years and 25years respectively, sustained various degrees of burns and were transported to the Tema General Hospital before the arrival of the GNFS crew.
Investigation underway
DO II Yenzu said the cause of the fire was currently under investigation by the GNFS, adding that a team of senior officers, led by ACFO II Patrick N. Sallah, Tema Regional Fire Commander, oversaw the response efforts. He indicated that the Afienya District Police Commander was also present at the scene, ensuring public safety and assisting with the response efforts.
