93 percent of Ghanaian prophetic pastors are jokers-Osofo Kyiri Abosom

The founder and leader of the Life Assembly Worship Centre in the Greater Accra Region, Rev. Christian Kwabena Andrews, has strongly criticised some prophetic pastors in Ghana, accusing them of bringing disrepute to the pastoral ministry through sensational and life-threatening prophecies. Speaking on the Ghana Yensom morning show with Otafrigya Kaayire Kwesi Apea-Apreku on Accra 100.5 FM, Monday, August 11, 2025, Rev. Andrews, also known as Osofo Kyiri Abosom and also leads the Ghana Union Movement (GUM), claimed that “93 per cent” of such prophets are “jokers” who lack seriousness in their calling. He said many of them thrive on public attention, issuing alarming predictions about national leaders without first engaging them privately.

“God reveals to redeem,” Rev. Andrews emphasised, “but these so-called prophets reveal and then walk away without providing solutions.” He recalled a time when he privately delivered a prophecy regarding the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II. Instead of making it public, he chose to contact the Manhyia Palace directly, discuss the matter, and worked towards a resolution. “After the meeting, the King thanked me for the mature way I handled it,” he mentioned, questioning why others opt for national television to broadcast personal prophecies about leaders.

His comments were in reference to a recent prophecy from a colleague who predicted that Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah would die in a plane crash. Tragically, eight people, including Dr. Boamah, later lost their lives in a Ghana Armed Forces Z-9 helicopter crash while on an official flight to Obuasi in the Ashanti Region.

The victims included:

Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Minister of Defence

Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation

Alhaji Muniru Mohammed, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator

Samuel Aboagye, former parliamentary candidate

Dr. Samuel Sarpong, National Vice Chairman of the NDC and former Regional Minister

Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Ghana Air Force

Flight Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu, Ghana Air Force

Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah, Ghana Air Force

Rev. Andrews commended the President for his leadership in ordering that all prophecies about the government be submitted to the Presidency for review. He proposed the establishment of a special desk at the Presidency for receiving prophecies. He also suggested creating an official government website where pastors could submit their prophecies privately, thereby eliminating unnecessary public showmanship.
