Ghana and Algeria have signed a visa waiver agreement to strengthen bilateral relations. This agreement was announced following an official visit to Algiers by Ghana’s Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa. High-level meetings were held with Algeria’s President, Abdelmadjid Tebboune, and Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf. In addition to the visa waiver, both countries agreed to enhance cooperation in key sectors, including an increase in scholarships for Ghanaian students in fields such as artificial intelligence, robotics, and engineering.
Other outcomes of the visit include plans to establish a direct air link between Accra and Algiers, launch a strategic oil and gas partnership, and strengthen security cooperation and intelligence sharing. The two nations also committed to reviving their Joint Economic Cooperation framework. The visit reaffirmed the longstanding ties between Ghana and Algeria, anchored in a history of post-independence solidarity and mutual support.
