A devastating road accident on the Juaso-Nkawkaw section of the Accra-Kumasi highway has claimed the lives of 15 members of the Obogu Saviour Church Youth Ministry, leaving the entire Obogu community in deep mourning. According to reports, the incident occurred on Monday, July 28, when a fuel tanker travelling from Kumasi to Accra attempted to overtake another vehicle but suffered a tire burst. This resulted in a head-on collision with a Ford Transit bus carrying the church youth group. The group was en route from a youth congress held in Koforidua when the tragedy struck near Juaso.
Church elder Mr. Kofi Baah confirmed the heartbreaking incident, revealing that among the deceased are the children of the church’s Head Pastor. “Some parents have lost two or even three children. The pain is unbearable,” he said in an emotional interview. Mr. Baah added, “Fifteen bodies have been deposited at the Juaso Government Hospital mortuary, while four others are in critical condition in the hospital’s emergency unit.”
Emergency teams from the Motor Traffic and Transport Directorate (MTTD), the National Ambulance Service, and the Ghana National Fire Service from Juaso and Konongo swiftly responded to the scene. The victims, aged between 4 and 21 years, received immediate medical attention. The accident has plunged the Obogu Township into mourning, with community members and church leaders struggling to come to terms with the immense loss. Authorities have launched investigations into the incident, and grief counsellors are expected to be deployed to support the affected families.
