We are sorry – Appointments Committee apologises to Ghanaians

The Appointments Committee has formally apologized to Ghanaians after the disorderly events that transpired during the vetting session on Thursday evening. Intended to vet nominees Kwabena Mintah Akandoh and Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, the session spiralled into chaos as the Minority and Majority Caucuses confronted each other.

Tensions escalated when the Minority proposed rescheduling the vetting to Friday, expressing concerns about the day’s proceedings. However, the Majority members rejected this suggestion, insisting that the vetting should proceed as planned. The disagreement intensified, with Minority members disrupting the session by breaking tables and microphones in an attempt to prevent any delay.

Despite the chaos, the Majority remained resolute, contending that the committee was adhering to its established schedule and that the vetting should proceed without disruption. The situation prompted an increased security presence in the conference room as tensions escalated. In their apology, the Appointments Committee recognised the disruption and expressed regret for the incident. They assured the public that measures would be implemented to prevent such occurrences in the future and to ensure that the vetting process remains orderly and respectful.
