Voting commenced peacefully this morning, September 2, 2025, at all polling stations in the Akwatia Constituency in the Eastern Region. By 8:30 AM, visits to several polling locations—including the Akyem Tarkorawse R/C Polling Station, Town Mosque Polling Station, Durbar Grounds, Methodist Primary, SDA Basic School, NYOC, Presbyterian Primary School, Funeral Grounds, and Tokrowase Senior High School—showed that the voting process was running smoothly.
All 119 polling stations are overseen by senior police officers, with additional support from junior officers. The Police Administration has assigned Deputy Commissioners of Police (DCOPs) and Assistant Commissioners of Police (ACPs) to manage all Electoral Areas in the constituency, ensuring the peace and security of the electoral process.
According to Graphic Online’s Haruna Yussif Wunpini, as of 8:50 AM, voters were waiting in queues at all 119 polling stations across the Akwatia constituency. Three candidates from the New Patriotic Party (NPP), the National Democratic Congress (NDC), and the Liberal Party of Ghana (LPG) are vying for election.
A total of 52,328 voters are on the register. The Akwatia seat has been a swing seat for both NDC and NPP. At the Beauty of Nature polling station at Boadua, the Presiding Officer of the Electoral Commission (EC), Matilda Anakwah told Graphic Online that a total of 537 registered voters are expected to cast their ballots at the station. Thirteen police officers in uniform and and mofty were seen at the station.
At the Boadua Bus Terminal, there weren’t many voters in the queue as of 8 am. The Presiding Officer in charge of the polling station, Obeng Mark Akrofi, said a total of 612 registered voters were expected to cast their ballots. Esi Baisiwaa, who was first to cast her ballot, told Graphic Online encouraged other voters to quickly go out and vote to enable their respective candidates to win.
