UPDN PETITIONS HIS EXCELLENCY JOHN DRAMANI MAHAMA ON THE 6TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE GRUESOME MURDER OF AHMED HUSSEIN-SUALE
The United Press for Development Network (UPDN), a leading advocate for press freedom and justice, wishes to inform the public of its official petition to His Excellency John Dramani Mahama, President of the Republic of Ghana ahead of the sixth anniversary of the tragic murder of Ahmed Hussein-Suale.
Ahmed Hussein-Suale, an undercover investigative journalist with Anas Aremeyaw Anas’ Tiger Eye PI, was brutally murdered on January 16, 2019, near his residence in Madina, Accra, by unknown gunmen. This heinous crime remains unresolved, and justice for Ahmed continues to elude his family, colleagues, and the people of Ghana.
Thursday, January 16, 2025, marks six years since this horrific incident, and as an organization committed to upholding the values of accountability, press freedom, and human rights, we believe this anniversary is a sobering reminder of the need to revisit the case with renewed vigour and commitment.
In our petition delivered to the Office of the President on Wednesday 15th January 2025, we have called for:
- Renewed Investigation Efforts: We urge a comprehensive reopening of the investigation into Ahmed’s murder, with transparency and accountability at its core.
- Provision of Resources for Justice: We appeal for the allocation of necessary resources to ensure the success of the investigation, including the involvement of international forensic and investigative experts, if required.
- Public Updates: We request regular communication on progress in the case to assure Ghanaians that justice is being actively pursued.
- Strengthened Media Protections: We advocate for robust legal and institutional safeguards for journalists, ensuring their safety and freedom to operate without fear.
Ahmed Hussein-Suale’s unwavering commitment to exposing corruption and advancing the public interest through investigative journalism remains an inspiration to many. His memory must serve as a clarion call for stronger protections for journalists and a renewed commitment to justice.
We urge all well-meaning Ghanaians, media organizations, and civil society groups to join us in demanding accountability and justice for Ahmed Hussein-Suale. This is not just about one journalist; it is about protecting the integrity of Ghana’s democracy and safeguarding the lives of those who speak truth to power.
UPDN remains resolute in its mission to advocate for justice and accountability. We will continue to monitor developments on this case and engage all stakeholders to ensure that Ahmed’s sacrifice was not in vain.
