Villarreal midfielder Thomas Partey has been hit with two additional rape charges in the United Kingdom, the Metropolitan Police have confirmed. The Ghanaian international had already faced five counts of rape and two counts of sexual assault in August 2025, to which he pleaded not guilty.
According to Spanish outlet Diario AS, the new charges stem from a separate complaint filed in 2020 and involve a third alleged victim. Partey is scheduled to appear in a London court on Friday, March 13, to enter his plea. He remains on bail from the earlier case, which involves two other complainants and is still ongoing.
Partey, 32, left London on a free transfer after his legal troubles became public, signing a two-year deal with Villarreal last summer. Despite criticism from some supporters, the Spanish club defended its decision, citing the presumption of innocence. Villarreal has not yet commented on the latest development. On the pitch, Partey has struggled to make a significant impact since returning to Spain.
The former Arsenal midfielder has made 21 appearances for Villarreal, totaling 1,068 minutes, but has only started 12 matches and completed three full games. Following a 3-0 defeat to Bayer Leverkusen, manager Marcelino Garcia Toral said it has been “very difficult to play” at Partey’s pace. The combination of legal challenges and form struggles has cast a shadow over Partey’s career at Villarreal and affected the club’s international reputation.
