“Sex is a bonus, not the foundation of love” – Relationship Coach

Relationship coach Rev. Dr. Nanayaa Prempeh has cautioned young people against building love on the foundation of sex, warning that relationships driven mainly by physical attraction often collapse when challenges arise. Speaking on Upside Down on Channel One TV on Sunday, February 15, she emphasized that love and marriage demand maturity and intentional decision-making, not impulses fueled by pleasure.

According to her, falling in love without clarity can cloud judgment and lead individuals to tolerate harmful behaviour simply because of emotional attachment. Rev. Dr. Prempeh explained that the motivation behind love must be anchored in long-term values capable of sustaining a relationship beyond physical intimacy.

She further encouraged individuals to place greater value on kindness, respect, and godly character, stressing that these qualities are far more reliable indicators of genuine love than fleeting excitement. “Love and marriage are deeply spiritual. Choosing to love is a conscious decision.

When you fall in love, if you are not careful, every wrong the person commits may appear right to you because of what drew you in,” she explained. Rev. Dr. Prempeh cautioned that some people fall in love simply because of sexual gratification, but emphasised that sex is only a bonus that comes with love—it should never be the reason for it. “If sex becomes the foundation, once it fades, the relationship collapses,” she added.
