President Mahama proposes aviation partnership with Portugal to reestablish Ghana’s national airline

President John Dramani Mahama has announced Ghana’s plan to explore a strategic partnership with Portugal aimed at reestablishing a national airline. This initiative is part of a broader agenda to revitalize the aviation sector and stimulate economic growth. The announcement was made during a ceremony at the Jubilee House, where the President received letters of credence from five newly accredited ambassadors to Ghana, including Maria Da Conceição de Sousa Pilar, the new Portuguese Ambassador.

The other diplomats present were from Seychelles, Venezuela, Chad, and Gabon. In his engagement with Ambassador Sousa Pilar, President Mahama emphasised the importance of strengthening bilateral ties with Portugal, particularly in the areas of aviation, trade, and investment.

“We appreciate that the Portuguese national airline flies directly to Accra,” the President noted. “Ghana is working to reestablish its national airline, and at the appropriate time, we will seek strategic partners. If the Portuguese national carrier is interested, we welcome such a collaboration.” President Mahama further highlighted Ghana’s strong investment potential, citing its abundant natural resources and a growing population of nearly 35 million people as compelling reasons for foreign businesses to consider the country a prime investment destination. “We are committed to expanding economic relations and creating a conducive environment for investment,” he said.
