President Mahama nominates Johnson Asiamah as Governor of Bank of Ghana

President John Dramani Mahama has nominated Dr. Johnson Asiamah as the next Governor of the Bank of Ghana, pending approval from the Council of State. Dr. Asiamah’s nomination follows the retirement of the current Governor, Dr. Ernest Addison, who is due to step down on 31 March 2025, after formally requesting to take leave ahead of his retirement.

Dr. Johnson Asiamah is a seasoned economist with over 23 years of experience in the banking sector, having previously served as Second Deputy Governor of the Bank of Ghana from 2016 to 2017. He holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Southampton, UK, and has extensive expertise in monetary policy formulation, financial stability regulation, and economic research.

Throughout his career at the Bank of Ghana, Dr. Asiamah has been instrumental in shaping monetary and exchange rate policies aimed at ensuring financial stability and fostering economic growth. His nomination signals the Mahama administration’s commitment to strengthening Ghana’s financial sector, ensuring sound monetary policies, and promoting accelerated economic development.

Dr. Asiamah is expected to bring his vast experience to bear in stabilizing the economy, regulating the financial sector, and driving policies that support sustainable growth. The nomination was announced in a statement signed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Acting Spokesperson to the President.
