Over 150,000 youth enroll in national apprenticeship programme – NYA confirms

The National Youth Authority (NYA) has announced that more than 150,000 Ghanaians have enrolled in its National Apprenticeship Programme, significantly exceeding the initial target of 10,000 participants for the first phase of the initiative. This high level of enrollment reflects the eagerness of Ghanaian youth to take advantage of the opportunities provided by the National Apprenticeship Programme.

In an interview with Citi News on Tuesday, June 24, during a meeting with master craftsmen to discuss skills development in Ghana, Jacob Adongo, the Deputy CEO of the NYA, mentioned that applicants are currently undergoing registration and assessment. Training is scheduled to begin in July, aimed at equipping participants with various apprenticeship skills.

“The young people of this country are very resilient; they are not lazy, and all they need is opportunity, and this type of opportunity has been made available.  We want you to take advantage of this opportunity and learn. Strike very hard, let us reduce the alcohol intake, drugs and take advantage of the opportunity,” he advised. Jacob Adongo further stated that programme participants will receive stipends for transportation and be provided with start-up kits to encourage and motivate them.
