The death toll from the Ntoaso fuel tanker explosion on Saturday, February 14, has risen to six after three more victims succumbed to their injuries, Citi News can confirm. The three victims were among ten who sustained severe burns and were referred to the Eastern Regional Hospital in Koforidua for intensive care. Despite the best efforts of medical staff, they succumbed to the severity of their injuries. DO III Ignatius Kwamena Baidoo, Eastern Regional Public Relations Officer for the Ghana National Fire Service, confirmed the update to Channel One News.
“Sadly, three of the ten victims have died from their injuries—two men and one woman—while seven others remain under medical care. Among the survivors are two young boys, four adults, and one woman,” he stated. The incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday, February 14, 2026, when a fuel tanker reportedly ignited after colliding along the Nsawam–Accra highway. Preliminary reports suggest that the crash impact sparked a fire, which escalated into a massive explosion. At least five cars and five motorbikes were completely destroyed in the blaze.
