NPP unveils final five for high-stakes flagbearer contest

Five prominent individuals have officially entered the race to become the presidential candidate for the New Patriotic Party (NPP), setting the stage for a highly anticipated internal contest. In a press release dated Thursday, August 28, 2025, the party’s Presidential Elections Committee confirmed that all five aspirants who had previously collected nomination forms have successfully submitted their completed documents.

The list of confirmed candidates includes Ing. Kwabena Agyei Agyepong, Ken Ohene Agyapong, Dr. Bryan Acheampong, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, and Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum. The process was initiated on Tuesday, July 29, 2025, when the General Secretary, acting on behalf of the National Council, officially opened nominations for party members seeking to lead the NPP into the 2028 general elections.

In its statement, the Committee aimed to reassure members and the public regarding the integrity of the upcoming primary. “The Committee assures all stakeholders of its commitment to a transparent, credible, and fair process, guided by the Party’s Constitution and Regulations, to ensure the integrity of the process,” stated the release, which was signed by the Committee’s Secretary, William Yamoah. The party is preparing for a closely contested internal election scheduled for Saturday, January 31, 2026, to select its flagbearer.
