NPP mourns the sudden death of Akwatia MP Ernest Kumi

The Eastern Regional Executive Committee of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has officially confirmed the death of Ernest Yaw Kumi, the Member of Parliament for Akwatia. In a statement on Monday, July 7, 2025, the regional leadership described the late Ernest Kumi’s passing as both sudden and untimely, expressing shock and sorrow over the loss.

“This heartbreaking news has come as a great shock to the Party, the people of Akwatia, and the nation at large,” the statement said. The late MP, affectionately known as the “Akwatia Star Boy,” was praised for his unwavering commitment to the development of his constituency and dedication to the ideals of the New Patriotic Party.

The party extended its condolences to his family, the chiefs, and the people of Akwatia, and the NPP fraternity nationwide. “May the soul of our beloved brother and compatriot rest in perfect peace,” the statement concluded. Mr. Kumi was serving his first term in Parliament, having been elected in the 2024 general elections. Funeral arrangements are yet to be announced.
