Fiifi Boafo, a spokesperson for the Vice-Presidential Candidate of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, has insisted that his candidate will never prefer the Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress, John Dramani Mahama, to the Flagbearer of the NPP, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. He maintains that Dr. Opoku-Prempeh’s slip during a recent campaign event was not an endorsement.
This follows a viral video of Dr. Opoku-Prempeh urging voters in the Madina Constituency to vote for former President John Dramani Mahama instead of his candidate, Dr. Bawumia. Reacting to the viral video on Starr Today with Joshua Kodjo Mensah and Tutuwaa Danso, he firmly stated that the remark was a slip of the tongue and not a deliberate endorsement of Mahama.
According to him, NAPO’s statement was a mistake and does not reflect his true stance. “Dr. Matthew Opoku-Prempeh is human. These things happen to everyone. At no point in time will Dr. Opoku-Prempeh prefer John Dramani Mahama to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia. He has advanced these arguments on several platforms, emphasizing that Dr. Bawumia is a better option for our country compared to what John Mahama presents.”
“So, at no point in time will he elevate John Dramani Mahama above Dr. Bawumia. Dr. Bawumia has demonstrated to all Ghanaians that, as Vice President, he is better than John Dramani Mahama was as Vice President. At no point will NAPO claim Mahama is better than Bawumia,” he added.
Mr. Boafo emphasized that Dr. Opoku-Prempeh remains aligned with the party’s goals. However, former President John Dramani Mahama has stated that NPP leading members can’t keep his name out of their mouths because they have been dreaming about him.
