The National Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate, John Dramani Mahama was warmly welcomed at the Ga Mantse’s palace on Thursday as part of his ongoing #Mahama4Change2024 campaign in the Greater Accra Region. During his visit, the former president met with the Ga Traditional Council, expressing his appreciation to King Tackie Teiko Tsuru II, the chiefs, queen mothers, wulomei, and opinion leaders for their hospitality.
Mr. Mahama emphasized the importance of building strong relationships with traditional authorities, recognizing their critical role in Ghanaian society. He also discussed his commitment to collaborating with traditional leaders to promote the country’s heritage festivals. These festivals, he noted, present opportunities to strengthen local economies, foster cultural tourism, and showcase Ghana’s heritage on the global stage.
The NDC leader reaffirmed his pledge to enhance the representation of traditional authorities within Ghana’s decentralized structures. He believes this initiative will help create a more inclusive and effective governance system that respects Ghana’s cultural heritage.
Since announcing his intention to return to the presidency, Mr Mahama has consistently highlighted the importance of empowering traditional leaders to play a more active role in governance. He reiterated his commitment to strengthening ties with chiefs and traditional authorities across the country, acknowledging their role as custodians of Ghana’s traditions and essential partners in the nation’s development.
