Mr. Sammy Gyamfi, the Chief Executive Officer of Goldbod, has filed a defamation lawsuit against media personality Afia Schwarzenegger. He characterizes the allegations made against him as “false, malicious, and deliberately contrived.” The lawsuit, filed on Wednesday, July 23, aims to counter what Mr. Gyamfi claims is a smear campaign intended to damage his reputation.
Key to the lawsuit are claims allegedly made by Afia Schwarzenegger, suggesting that Mr. Gyamfi has girlfriends at the University of Ghana and that he has purchased vehicles and property for them. In response, Mr. Gyamfi stated clearly, “I have no girlfriend(s) at the University of Ghana and have not, at any time, purchased vehicles for any so-called girlfriends, as claimed by the defendant.” He also denied ever buying any property in the United States or elsewhere for his wife or a supposed sister-in-law.
Furthermore, Mr. Gyamfi asserted that his wife does not have a sister named “Vida,” as alleged by the defendant, and emphasised that any thorough investigation would have uncovered this fact. He contended that the defamatory claims were made either knowingly or with “unpardonably reckless disregard for the truth.”
In his view, the publications were intentionally aimed at portraying him as “morally depraved and without any scruples.” The NDC politician noted that the impact of the statements has been severe, recounting that he has received numerous calls and faced difficult questions from associates, senior officials from the Office of the President, members of the NDC, family, and others both locally and abroad.
Mr. Gyamfi said he is pursuing the matter not just to protect his name, but to deter similar reckless attacks on public figures in the future.
