Majid

Majid Michel, an actor, producer and preacher have said he does not see anything wrong with the use of “weed”. Majid has therefore called on the government to legalise and commercialise the use of “weed” in the country. He said the herb is God-made, and medicinal and does not cause anybody to be violent as it is widely perceived.

Majid has, however, advised persons below the age of 25 not to indulge in the use of the herb. There has been a lot of debate as to whether the country should legalise and commercialise the use of the substance.

Speaking with Kent Mensah on Sunday Night on Asaase radio, Majid said: “I’ve done drugs before, I’ve indulged in drugs before. I’ve done hard drugs. I don’t mean weed. I don’t see anything wrong with ‘weed’.
It was God-made. It was created by God.

“I’ve never heard of anybody who has overdosed on weed … I’ve done things out of weed. I’ve done cocaine. LSD (lysergic acid diethylamide) …I’ve done other drugs that if I told you right now, you’ll not be able to pronounce. These were years back … and I didn’t struggle to overcome it.”

He added: “Maybe because of the smoke…maybe that’s why health-wise to smoke it’s not the best but to brew it, to drink it; I don’t see anything wrong with it. You drink teas, don’t you?”

“Legalise it”

Majid said: “I am for it completely but then again before anything is legalised, the government must make sure that they are ready to take responsibility and must exhaust the consequences that come with the legalisation of ‘weed’ before a decision is made.”

He added: “Before the government decides to pass a law for the legalisation of weed then they must make sure that they have exhausted all possible avenues … by learning from countries who have done it.” “if the government is not ready to take responsibility for the consequences [for legalising ‘weed’] then it shouldn’t take that decision,” he said.

“Choose your friends carefully”

The actor has, however, advised the youth to be careful about the type of friends they choose as that could make or unmake them. “You must be very careful of the friends you make; the drugs I did [during my younger years] was because of the type of friends I was walking with at the time … it did not just happen suddenly.”

“Just because you surround yourself with good friends does not mean they are the right friends [for you] … good can keep you from being the best individual you can be,” the actor said.
