Police in the Volta Region have taken 10 individuals into custody following the shooting at the Ho Central Mosque, which left several worshippers injured. The arrests represent a significant development in the ongoing probe into the violent incident, which unfolded amid heightened tensions at the mosque on the morning of Friday, December 26.
Confirming the arrests to Citi News, Volta Regional Police PRO, Chief Inspector Francis Gomado, stated that all 10 suspects are currently assisting investigators. He added that while the arrests mark progress, the investigation remains active, as some key perpetrators are believed to have escaped the scene in a pickup vehicle. He noted that efforts are underway to locate and arrest them to complete the probe.
Police have also begun examining the broader circumstances surrounding the shooting, including a long-standing leadership dispute within the mosque, which investigators believe may have contributed to the violence.
Chief Inspector Francis Gomado has assured residents that calm has been restored in Ho, emphasising that police, in collaboration with other security agencies, are working diligently to safeguard peace and prevent further unrest. He appealed to the Muslim community and the wider public to remain composed and cooperate with law enforcement as investigations progress.
“So far, 10 individuals have been arrested in connection with the attack, while others who fled the scene in a pickup vehicle are being pursued. Efforts are underway to apprehend the remaining suspects to aid ongoing investigations. The arrested persons are currently in police custody. We urge the Muslim community to stay calm and allow the police to handle the matter,” he stated.
