Ghana Armed Forces ready to defend against all threats – Army Chief

The Chief of Army Staff, Major General Lawrence Kwaku Gbetanu, has begun a working visit to the Northern Region as part of his nationwide familiarisation tour following his recent appointment to lead the Ghana Army. During his visit to the Northern Command Headquarters in Tamale, Major General Gbetanu emphasized the importance of this tour, which aims to enhance operational readiness and engage directly with the frontline troops responsible for safeguarding national security.“Since assuming office as Army Chief, I have embarked on a familiarization and operational visit to all army units,” he stated.

“This is my tenth visit, and it is meant to help me assess their operational, administrative, and logistical situations. Additionally, it provides an opportunity to connect with troops deployed on the frontlines and motivate them to give their best in protecting our motherland, Ghana.”As part of his itinerary, the Army Chief inspected key military installations and ongoing training programs in the region.

He visited the 6th Infantry Battalion and the Army Special Operations Training School (ASOTS) in Daboya. He also paid a courtesy call on the Overlord of Dagbon, Ya-Naa Abukari II, to strengthen civil-military relations and foster collaboration with traditional authorities. In an interview, Major General Gbetanu reaffirmed the military’s commitment to national defense and counterterrorism efforts. “The Ghana Armed Forces is fully prepared to contain any threat—whether external or internal. Troops are deployed across the country in strategic positions to respond to any threat that may confront us as a nation,” he assured.
