GES releases 2026/2027 Academic Calendar for SHS, SHTS

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has released the academic calendar for Senior High Schools (SHSs) and Senior High Technical Schools (SHTSs) for the 2026/2027 academic year, covering both single-track and transitional institutions. In a statement issued on June 1, the Service confirmed that the calendar has been finalised and urged parents, students, teachers, and administrators to take note of the dates and prepare adequately for the new academic year.

“The Management of GES wishes to inform parents/guardians, students, and the public that the academic calendar for Senior High Schools (SHSs) and Senior High Technical Schools (SHTSs) for the 2026/2027 academic year has been finalised,” the statement read.

Under the single-track system, Form One and Form Two students will commence the first semester on September 18, 2026, and remain in school until January 29, 2027. They will then proceed on vacation until March 29, 2027, with the second semester scheduled to run from March 30 to July 30, 2027.

Form Three students in single-track schools will start classes on September 18, 2026, and end their first semester on December 18, 2026. After a vacation period ending January 31, 2027, they will return to school on February 1 and complete the academic year on June 18, 2027.

For transitional schools, Form One students will alternate between in-person and online learning. They will begin in-school studies on September 18, 2026, before moving to online learning from November 16 to December 18, 2026. Following a break, they will return to school from February 8 to April 16, 2027, and resume online learning from April 19 to May 14, 2027.

The second semester for Form One students in transitional schools will run from June 21 to August 27, 2027. Form Two students in transitional schools will start school on November 16, 2026, and continue until February 5, 2027, followed by an online learning period from February 8 to March 5, 2027. Their second semester will commence on April 19 and end on August 27, 2027.

Form Three students in transitional schools will attend school from September 18 to December 18, 2026, then resume classes on January 5, 2027, and complete the academic year on June 18, 2027. GES also announced that the Christmas break will run from December 19, 2026, to January 4, 2027, while the Easter break has been scheduled for March 25 to March 30, 2027.

The West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) is expected to take place from April 6 to June 18, 2027, while a mid-semester break for Form Two students has been scheduled for June 17 to June 20, 2027. The GES urged stakeholders to comply with the calendar.

“The Management of GES urges all stakeholders, especially school heads, teachers, parents, and students, to take note of these dates and prepare accordingly,” he said.
