GES Cautions Public Against Fake BECE School Selection Notice

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has dismissed as false a widely circulated notice alleging that the 2026 school selection exercise for Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidates began on June 15, 2026.

In a statement issued on June 14, the Service clarified that it has not announced the start of the school selection process and cautioned candidates, parents, guardians, teachers, and the general public against relying on the misleading information being shared across platforms.

According to GES, the fabricated notice falsely claimed that candidates were required to choose and submit five preferred schools ahead of placement, with no deadline for submissions, and directed stakeholders to seek assistance through an unofficial WhatsApp support line.

GES emphasised that the publication did not originate from the Service and should be disregarded entirely. It reiterated that all official information regarding school selection and placement will be communicated solely through its recognised channels and authorised platforms.

The Service further cautioned parents and candidates against submitting personal information or engaging with individuals behind the fake announcement, warning that such misinformation could expose unsuspecting members of the public to fraud and other forms of exploitation.

Meanwhile, GES urged stakeholders to verify any education-related announcements before acting on them and to rely only on information released through official government and education sector communication channels. The Service reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring a transparent and credible placement process and assured the public that any future updates concerning the 2026 school selection exercise would be communicated officially.
