The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) will conduct a joint security exercise across parts of the Bono and Upper East Regions from Sunday, May 10 to Wednesday, May 20, 2026, as part of efforts to bolster national security preparedness. Codenamed Exercise Storm Shield 2026, the operation will involve personnel from the Ghana Army, Navy, and Air Force in an internal security and counter-insurgency field training exercise.
According to a statement signed by Captain (Navy) Veronica Adzo Arhin, Acting Director General of Public Relations for the GAF, the exercise is designed to enhance the operational readiness and rapid response capabilities of troops in addressing emerging security threats.
Residents in the two regions have been advised to expect increased movement of troops, equipment, and other military activities during the period. The military, however, assured the public that there is no cause for alarm.
“The public is advised not to panic, but to go about their normal duties,” the statement said. The Ghana Armed Forces reiterated its commitment to safeguarding the country’s territorial integrity and maintaining peace and security. Exercise Storm Shield 2026 forms part of broader efforts by the military to sharpen its response mechanisms against contemporary security challenges and ensure troops remain prepared for any potential threats.
