A Deputy Commissioner at the Electoral Commission (EC), Dr Bossman Asare has told all persons partaking in the special voting to endeavour to do so on the designated date because their names will not be on the voter register during the main elections on December 7.
He reminded them that the Special Voting, which forms part of the conduct of the 2024 general elections, will be held on December 2. He says that 328 voting centres have been designated for this exercise. Speaking on the Big Issue on TVF3 on Monday, November 25, he said no constituency will have more than 750 people. Centres with more than that figure have been divided. “Special voting will take place on December 2 at 328 centres,” he stressed.
He added “If you are a special voter, go and vote on December 2, if you don’t vote on that day, your name will not be on the register on December 7,” he said. The special voting arrangement is intended to accommodate voters who will be performing election-related duties on the main polling day.
It includes personnel from the Ghana Armed Forces, National Intelligence Bureau (NIB), National Security, Ghana Immigration Service, Ghana National Fire Service, and Information Services Department. Additionally, it includes members of the National Ambulance Service, Customs Division of the Ghana Revenue Authority, Prisons Service, Ghana Journalists Association, Ghana Police Service, and the National Media Commission.
This early voting ensures that these individuals can exercise their right to vote without conflicting with their professional responsibilities during the elections. However, the results of the special voting will not be declared until after the general elections.
