Don’t resist armed robbers; your life is more important — IGP

The Inspector General of Police, Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has called on Ghanaians to prioritise their personal safety during encounters with criminals, advising against resisting armed assailants. He made these comments on Tuesday, May 19, after receiving a plaque and citation from the Mobile Money Advocacy Group in Ghana in recognition of his efforts in combating crime.

Yohuno emphasised that in the event of a robbery, individuals should cooperate with the attackers’ demands, underscoring that the value of human life far outweighs that of material possessions. “Our message to all Ghanaians is: if you are confronted by a criminal, hand over whatever they demand. We do not want anyone to struggle with an assailant. If they want your mobile phone, your laptop, or your money, let them take it. Your life is far more valuable than these items,” he stated.

The IGP further assured the public that security agencies are intensifying efforts to track down and bring perpetrators of violent crimes to justice. “If you are driving your car and the criminal says he wants it, give it out to him. Let him know that he can take these things but he cannot hide. Security will come after that person,” he added.

He reiterated the Police Service’s commitment to addressing unresolved crimes and ensuring that offenders are prosecuted, stressing that the safety of citizens remains a top priority.
