Don’t just plan for your victory, plan for your defeat too – IGP tells political parties

The Ghana Police Service has called on political parties and independent candidates to manage their expectations in the upcoming 2024 elections, stressing the importance of maintaining peace and stability in what is expected to be a win-or-lose contest.

This message, outlining the force’s preparations for the elections, was delivered during a police briefing on November 21 with representatives from all political parties. In his address, Inspector General of Police Dr. George Akuffo Dampare assured that the police would handle any electoral violence with professionalism, taking appropriate actions to either escalate or de-escalate situations as necessary.

“With the 13 or the 12, whichever it is, there is one clear thing, only one will win, the rest will not win. In the same way, the 801 vying for the position of 276 seats, only and I repeat only 276 will win, the rest will not win. We need to come to this realisation and therefore measure our expectations.

“If I want to be very blunt, I will say that as you plan to celebrate your possible victory, plan to celebrate your defeat or endure your defeat. So at the end of the day, Ghana and only Ghanaians will win in this election as we have said”, he stated.
