Ato Forson, Jinapor and Ayine to be vetted today

Parliament is set to commence the vetting of the first batch of ministerial nominees presented by President John Dramani Mahama today, Monday, January 13, 2025. The vetting process will begin with examining Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, the Member of Parliament for Ajumako-Enyan-Esiam and current Majority Leader, who has been nominated as the Minister-designate for Finance.

Ato Forson’s nomination comes at a time when Ghana’s economy faces challenges, including high inflation, mounting public debt, and calls for sustainable economic reforms. This constitutional requirement will be carried out by Parliament’s Appointments Committee which was constituted on January 9, 2025.

Next on the committee’s schedule will be John Abdulai Jinapor, who was nominated as Minister-designate for Energy. Jinapor, an experienced politician and former Deputy Minister of Energy, is expected to address Ghana’s pressing energy sector issues, including unreliable power supply, renewable energy development and energy sector debt.

His vetting will provide insights into his plans to stabilise and transform the sector to meet the demands of a growing economy. Dr. Dominic Akuritinga Ayine, nominated as the Attorney-General and Minister of Justice-designate, is expected to be the last nominee who will face the Appointments Committee.

The Bolgatanga East lawmaker, a seasoned legal practitioner, academic, and former Deputy Attorney-General, is known for his expertise in constitutional law and governance. As the principal legal advisor to the government, he is expected to play a pivotal role in promoting the rule of law, addressing legal reforms, and ensuring justice for all Ghanaians.
