‘Akufo-Addo is an opportunist and self-centered person’ – A Plus

Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as ‘A Plus’, has described President Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo as “an opportunist” and a “self-centred person”. According to A Plus, the President only keeps in touch with people and shows concern when he needs a favour to his advantage. A Plus, who is the Member of Parliament-elect for Gomoa Central in the Central Region, made these comments during the extended coverage of Ghana Decides 2024 on TV3 on Friday, December 13, 2024.

Johnnie Hughes, co-host of the show, asked A Plus if President Akufo-Addo had called to congratulate him on his election victory, considering A Plus’ support for Akufo-Addo’s campaign and his efforts to help him become President. In response, A Plus revealed that the President fell out with him in 2018 when he complained about the misdeeds of some of Akufo-Addo’s appointees, and they have not spoken since.

However, A Plus recounted that it was Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, outgoing MP for Assin Central and 2024 NPP flag bearer aspirant, who facilitated a phone call between him and the President two weeks before the 2020 elections when Akufo-Addo was uncertain about his chances of winning.

“He has never called me. The last time he spoke to me… Akufo-Addo is an opportunist and a self-centred person, and you can quote me on that. I worked so hard for Akufo-Addo and liked him so much. We defended him so that he could become President. When some of his appointees were misconducting themselves and we complained about it, he fell out with some of us,” A Plus stated.

“Akufo-Addo never spoke to me since 2018 until two weeks before the 2020 elections when he was unsure whether he would win. Before that, Ken Agyapong had told me on countless occasions that Akufo-Addo wanted to speak to me, and I said to Ken Agyapong that Akufo-Addo could be President of the world, but he could never get through my phone. So, it was on Ken Agyapong’s phone that I spoke to Akufo-Addo. Ken Agyapong called and said, ‘Hey, don’t disappoint me, please. The President is here, take and speak to him,’” A Plus disclosed.

So, Akufo-Addo has never called me. I was not expecting his call. Akufo-Addo only called me two weeks before the election because he wanted support. Because he was scared, and after that, he has never called me. But I’ve never shared it here. I know what God has planned for me,” Kwame A Plus reiterated.
