Agradaa appeals 15-year sentence

Former traditional priestess turned evangelist Patricia Asiedua Asiamah, widely known as Nana Agradaa, has filed an appeal against her 15-year prison sentence for fraud. The appeal was submitted today at the Amasaman High Court, aiming to overturn the decision made by an Accra Circuit Court. The grounds for the appeal include claims that the trial was conducted incorrectly under the law and that the judgment is not supported by the evidence in the case.

Particulars

Lawyer for Agradaa, Richard Asare Baffour, argues that the trial was wrong in law because the trial court judge denied Agradaa a fair trial.  The appeal further accused the trial circuit judge of bias against Agradaa, and claims the sentence was harsh and excessive.

Sentence

Agradaa was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment each on two counts of defrauding by false pretence, with the court ordering Agradaa to serve the two sentences concurrently. The convict was also fined GH¢300 for charlatanic advertisement. The conviction and sentence stemmed from a televised broadcast in 2022 in which Agradaa told the public she was willing to share GH¢300,0000 to the needy during a church service  , but ended up taking various sum of money from people without giving out any money.
